Should I Sell in This Market?
Should I Sell in This Market? Home owners are concerned, and rightly so. Today's homes are not selling very quickly (for the most part) nor are they selling at what most owners would wish. This is particularly true of owners who purchased their homes within the last six years. Real estate prices went through the roof, and many people paid more than what is considered market value today. As a result, they are worried that they may not get out of the sale of their home what they owe. Given the situation, many home owners ask themselves if they should sell in this market. As always in real estate, there are several answers to this question. Let's take a look at some of them. It Depends on Which Market… Believe it or not, there are some markets in the United States where realty is still selling quite well, despite the overall bad news. Most of these markets are back east in states like New York which have solid economies and lots of people. Washington DC, Virginia Beach, Oregon, and a few other markets still have homes that overall are retaining their value. Now's a great time to sell in those areas, because if you are moving anywhere else you are going to get a lot more house for your dollar! Not if you have a Choice… On the other hand, people living in other markets should probably avoid selling their houses right now, if they don't have to. Now is not the time to panic and decide to sell a perfectly good house, when you are making the payments and don't have to. In other words, don't think you are going to lose out on a good investment. Only think about selling if you have to move due to a job transfer or some other life occurrence. Explore your options… If you do need to move to another location, you obviously don't want to saddle yourself with two mortgages. However, you may not have to sell your house in these circumstances either. Renters have flooded the market once again, and if you can cover the monthly mortgage payments on your property by finding renters, go for it. What we're saying is, in most cases you should avoid selling if at all possible. Sooner or later, the markets will bounce back and your house will be worth more than it is right now. If you do have no choice but to sell, though, make sure you explore the options open to you.
